Hafen von Scheveningen

Scheveningen Harbour

The port is one of the most important tourist hotspots in Scheveningen and always worth a visit. Sailing yachts, sport boats, small cutters and other sea-going vessels come and go all the time. Around the three harbours there is much more for visitors to discover than just seagulls and boats. The many interesting cafés and fantastic restaurants as well as the unique possibility of a harbour tour in a water cab are also worth mentioning.

Fishing and yachting port

Although Scheveningen, which historically developed from a fishing village, has its own fishing port, the marina in the second port (Tweede Haven) is much more exciting for visitors. Many small sport boats, dinghies, sailors and magnificent motor yachts are anchored here and swing cheerfully in the salty water.

While the captains and hobby sailors take a refreshing break in the yacht club, the interested visitor is attracted to the Mercuur A856. The former US minehunter is now a museum ship and is open to the public.

Harbour tour and water taxi

The water cab offers guests in the port of Scheveningen a service of the special kind – because hourly small yellow ones commute for only few euro from stop to stop by the port. The route takes you through all three harbour basins from Dr. Lelykade via the marina and the Visafslag canteen to the Zuiderstrandtheater.

Hours by season:

  • High season: July and August
    daily departures between 11:00 and 20:00 o’clock
  • Low season: May, June, September and October
    on weekends between 11:00 and 20:00 o’clock

Whether the water cab is only used for a small crossing or a large harbour tour is up to everyone. Clever travelers can combine their trip in the water cab with a tour on the boulevard train and use the small train as a shuttle.

Lighthouse Scheveningen

Lighthouse Scheveningen

Where there is a port, a lighthouse is a must. It stands directly on the boulevard not far from the port entrance and towers above everything in the surrounding area in bright red and 49 meters high. The building from 1875 is a real piece of history. Visitors can visit the old navigation sign in groups of up to six people. There are 159 steps to climb to the top of the tower, and the view is well worth the effort.
